The 2026 Winter Olympics are underway after a dazzling opening ceremony and with a packed schedule of competition ahead, American viewers tuning in will need to take note of the time difference between the U.S. and Italy, where the Milano Cortina Games are taking place.
Competition began on Feb. 4 with some preliminary matches and events are set to continue through the closing ceremony on Feb. 22. The Paralympics will take place the following month, from March 6 to March 15.
The venues in Italy are six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time and nine hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time.
Several days into the Olympic Games, Norway leads the medal count, followed by the United States and Italy.

Friday, Feb. 13, will see curling teams return to the ice for more round robin sessions. The U.S. men's and women's teams will both face Canada. Ice hockey matches also continue, with the U.S. women's team facing Italy in the quarterfinals. The U.S. women's team routed Canada 5-0 on Tuesday.
There will be medal events in men's 10km cross-country skiing, men's 10km sprint biathlon, women's snowboard cross, men's 10,000-meter speed skating, men's figure skating, men's snowboard halfpipe and men's skeleton.
"Quad God" Ilia Malinin is scheduled to return to the ice for the men's free skate program on Friday, just days after awing crowds with a performance scoring 108.16 in the short program.
There's also bobsledding, nordic combined and ski jumping training along with seeding runs for women's snowboard SBX.

Saturday, Feb. 14, will see medal events in the women's freestyle skiing dual mogul, the women's cross-country 4x7.5km relay, the men's giant slalom in alpine skiing, the women's biathlon 7.5km sprint, the men's 500-meter and 1,500-meter speed skating finals, men's ski jumping and the women's skeleton.
In men's hockey, the U.S. will take on Denmark in its second Group C game after easily defeating Latvia on Feb. 12. In men's curling, the U.S. will take on Germany, while in women's curling, the U.S. will face Japan.
There will also be events taking place in the bobsleigh.
When are the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2026 Olympics?
The opening ceremony for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games on Friday, Feb. 6, featured performances from Mariah Carey, Laura Pausini and Andrea Bocelli, as well as the traditional Parade of Nations and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.
