When Jaden Smith wants to go, he will go.

That’s what a Complex reporter learned the hard way during an interview with the musician. The son of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith didn’t stick around after hearing a question he didn’t like. The two were talking at the premiere of Coulda Been Love 2 in Los Angeles on Wednesday when the awkward incident occurred.

“I see you’re working with Steven Smith, who designed with Ye,” a Complex reporter asked Jaden. Ye is the name Kanye West legally changed his name to in 2021, although he does often still refer to himself as Kanye. Sneaker designer Steven Smith was the Head of Design for Kanye’s Yeezy brand for eight years before he was fired by the controversial rapper in 2024.

“What are y’all cooking up?” the reporter innocently asked.

Jaden then made a swift exit, walking away from the reporter and her microphone without saying a word.

“I guess we’ll never find out,” the reporter joked.

Reps for the musician and actor decline Page Six’s outreach for a comment about why Jaden walked away. It could be due to Kanye’s long, long list of controversies over the years. Although Kanye and Steven’s creative partnership seems to be done for now, Steven remained close to the rapper as he weathered accusations of antisemitism and anti-blackness.

Kanye’s most famous controversies include his belief that 400 years of slavery were “a choice”, and peddling antisemitic conspiracy theories. Ye appeared on the far-right show InfoWars, praising Hitler and calling himself a Nazi, all while sharing Holocaust denial theories. He also uploaded a track to Spotify called “Heil H*tler” in 2025.
